Boom Lift Rental for Data Centre Projects in Johor: A Planning Checklist
By Jonah Tan, Equipment Specialist · · 2 min read

Data centre projects in Johor move fast and run on tight schedules. Aerial access is one of those things that only gets noticed when it goes wrong. This checklist helps contractors plan boom lift rental for data centre projects in Johor early and avoid delays.
1. Map the heights for each phase
A data centre build typically moves through structure and steelwork, envelope and cladding, then M&E fit-out inside the halls. Each phase needs different machines:
- Structure and envelope: large rough-terrain telescopic and articulated booms for steel, roof and cladding work.
- Hall fit-out: electric scissor lifts and battery articulated booms for cable trays, containment, ducting and lighting.
- Plant areas and yards: booms and telehandlers for generators, chillers and pipework.
Not sure which boom suits each phase? Our telescopic vs articulated boom lift guide explains the difference.
2. Check floors before you book
Inside the halls, raised floors, epoxy finishes and slabs have load limits. Ask for each machine’s weight and wheel or point load, and check them against the floor design. Non-marking tyres are a must on finished floors.
3. Indoor means electric
Most main contractors and clients do not allow diesel machines inside the data halls. Plan battery scissor lifts and electric booms for indoor work, and agree where machines will be charged overnight.
4. Plan deliveries and access
- Site delivery windows and gate permits
- Route from the gate to the work area: ramps, doors, loading bays and goods lifts
- Laydown space for machines when they are not in use
5. Get documents approved early
Data centre sites are strict on safety. Send machine PMAs, service records and operator training records to the safety team before delivery so machines aren’t held at the gate. See our PMA checklist for aerial work platforms.
6. Agree breakdown response
When a machine stops, a whole crew can stop with it. Ask your supplier how fast they respond to breakdowns, whether they keep spare units nearby, and who to call after hours.
Tip: for long projects, a monthly rental with planned on-hire and off-hire dates per phase usually works out cheaper and easier to manage than many short rentals. See daily, weekly or monthly rental.
